‘The Flash’ Season 4 Will Move The Series In A Lighter Direction When It Returns This Fall

New Trailer Also Released Following Comic Con Panel

During the Flash panel portion of Warner Bros. TV presentation, on a very busy Saturday for SDCC 2017, we not only got a new trailer for ‘The Flash’ Season 4, it was also confirmed that Neil Sandilands will play the big bad for the new season, The Thinker.

In addition, Machete himself, Danny Trejo will join the cast as Breacher, a bounty hunter from Earth-19 and father of Jessica Camacho’s Gypsy. Kim Engelbrecht has also signed on to play The Mechanic, the right hand of The Thinker.

Previously teased by villain Abra Kadabra, The Thinker (aka Clifford DeVoe) is a mad genius inventor that has mind control and telekinesis powers via his “Thinking Cap.” The character first appeared in the comics back in All-Flash #12 in 1943 where he tormented the first Flash, Jay Garrick. He would go on to fight against the likes of Wonder Woman and The Atom and also appear as a member of the Suicide Squad and Injustice Society.

The panel included executive producer Todd Helbing and cast members Kelynan Lonsdale, Jesse L Martin, Candice Patton, Grant Gustin, Tom Cavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, and Carlos Valdes.

Both the cast and Helbing dropped a few hints about the new season, suggesting that fans can expect a shift toward a lighter, funnier tone when The Flash returns. Helbing said, “With three Speedsters in a row, this year it’s the fastest man alive against the fastest mind alive. We’re also trying to lighten the tone this year. Last year was pretty dark, we’re going to try to get back to the jokes.”

As for Iris West, look for her to take on an even bigger role in Season 4. Candice Patton, who plays the character, said that Iris would become “A boss lady at Team Flash. Iris is devastated Barry is gone into the speed force. In Season 4, Iris steps up as the leader of Team Flash.”

The Flash will return on October 10 at 8 PM ET.
